The term “RINO” is derogatory political slang literally translated as “Republican In Name Only.” Using the term usually casts suspicions upon your opponent and often cuts off debate. As such, the term typically limits the free flow of ideas, perpetuating a rigid agenda.
The Republican icons you see on the masthead have all been considered mavericks during their political career. By this I mean that they all held conservative viewpoints, but used common sense rather than conventional wisdom to guide their decision-making.
During these difficult times, it is important that the Party foster creative thinking to find solutions to the problems and incongruities that keep us from our real goal, which is to keep the world safe for freedom and democracy.
“RINO Horn” as a phrase is intended to have a double meaning, both as the obvious allusion to a rhino’s horn, and to “trumpet” or “call attention to” new ideas. This blog is conceived as a forum for conservative to moderate opinions free from accusation or agendas. The use of “RINO” is meant as a way to rob the term of its stigma.

Well said. Goldwater especialy is a hero of mine. In todays enviroment he would be pushed out of the party for his pragmatic aproach and moderate thinking on many social issues.

I believe that robbing the term RINO of it’s stigma i.e. to remove the negative connotation is has so well deserved is a disservice which may work to normalize these Republicans who vote as a Democrat.
I want nothing of it and believe the term should maintain its negative stigma.
